Beginners Make-up Essentials

I started wearing make-up about 2 years ago now and I can honestly say I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. Walking into Boots was an ordeal and a half, mainly because I didn't know what anything was or how to find the right colour for my milk bottle-pale face. I remember watching a YouTube 'drugstore makeup tutorial' video and buying every product in that video, even though some of the products were no good for my skin tone (I walked around with badly blended, orange, cakey foundation and war-paint style blush). I really wanted to find a simple explanation on what I needed to start wearing make-up and what everything was for. So, here I am today, writing this post to save other 14 year-olds who are currently in the position I was in. I won't go into skincare because that's a whole other post!

You may not need foundation but if you want to wear it then you go glen coco- The Rimmel Match Perfection comes in a wide range of shades, it's light-medium coverage and the consistency is pretty much perfect for blending.

You'll need concealer to cover anything the foundation hasn't quite covered- I personally found the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer to be the best when I was starting out (this isn't sponsored by them haha!). It blends easily, has a medium coverage and makes you look generally less dead. It is also very reasonably priced.

Powder is great if you have oily skin or prefer a matte look- Rimmel Stay-Matte Powder. £3.99. You can't go wrong! You'll need a brush or powder-puff to apply this. The Elf Complexion Brush is a good all round brush which can be used with not only powder, but with blush, bronzer etc.

BROWS! If your brows aren't looking their best then it will affect your whole face. Whenever I don't want to wear much/if any make-up, I only fill in my eyebrows and sweep on some mascara. The MUA Eyebrow Pencil is really quick and easy to use and is only £1! Perfect if you're on a budget. It also has a handy little brush on one end for combing through your brows.

Mascara finally finishes your quick and simple make-up routine- I think that mascara is the one make-up product that you should spend a bit more on, after all, everyone looks at your eyes! However, most young people are on a small budget, Maybelline Great Lash mascara separates and lengthens the lashes which will make your eyes appear more open and awake- great for when you're dragging yourself out of bed at 7:00am!

These are what I consider to be the bare-necessities for anyone starting to wear make-up. Obviously, products like blush, contour, eyeshadow, eyeliner etc can be added in over time as you gain confidence in applying and wearing make-up.
